Wolfdogs are extremely intelligent and complex animals. Due to their instinctual behaviours they retain due to their wolf content, a wolfdog’s mind is always ‘working’. In the wild this is extremely beneficial and necessary as every decision they make could be a life or death decision. Therefore, they have evolved to be extremely smart and capable of constantly making decisions.
For our wolfdogs at the Sanctuary, this makes for some very active minds that require a lot of stimulation and enrichment to be happy. Our rescued wolfdogs have come from all sorts of backgrounds, but one thing many of them have in common is coming from living spaces that were far too small for them to be remotely happy. Now with a second lease on life, we want to ensure we are providing these wolfdogs with the lives that they truly deserve to be happy, healthy and fulfilled. We do this by creating spaces for them that are spacious enough for them to run and explore through a forest if they are feeling adventurous, spaces that allow for plenty of opportunity to take cover and hide if they are feeling unsure or scared, and spaces that allow them to use their incredible minds to have fun and be happy. In order to provide them with these specific spaces, we need your help.
Providing wolfdogs with the care and enrichment they need in order to be happy and healthy is no easy feat! Our Dens for Days project strives to provide the additional enrichment that the wolfdogs require to be happy here at the Sanctuary in their spacious enclosures. This project will raise the necessary funding to build 5 new dens for our Tyrwhitt, Burstall, Norquay, Grotto, and Galatea packs, as well as bring in additional enrichment items such as boulders, logs and mounds to satisfy their adventurous minds.
